Comments: When this whimsical tale first appeared it was surrounded by mystery. Was Chick the Cherub, a boy or a girl? The book never tells you, so young readers were asked to decide, with the best answers being awarded cash prizes. In later Oz books this question is still undecided. You will enjoy the adventures of John Dough, the human sized gingerbread man who was brought to life by an Arab elixir, and has a tendency to crumble in the rain, Chick the first incubator baby, and Para Bruin, the rubber bear who loves to roll up in a ball and roll. Watch out for the wicked Mifkits as they adventure to the kingdom of Hilo (or is it Lohi?) A baker in America decides to celebrate the nation's birthday by baking a huge gingerbread man. But imagine his surprise when it comes to life! John Dough, not wishing to be eaten, decides to set out and find adventures with his new friend, Chick the Cherub.
