Comments: This book, which takes place before The Emerald City of Oz, is written to explain several mysteries, including the name change of the fairy queen from Lulea to Lurline and why a good part of the northern quadrant of Oz is part of the Winkie country rather than the Gillikin country. In the main action of the book, Queen Lulea and her band are invited to a town in Sweden (called incidentally Lulea), where they are grossly insulted after a typically Laumerian comedy of errors. Another plot recounts Ozma making an excursion into the northern part of Oz where an unexpected revelation is made about how some people get to Oz. |
