Comments: A collection of Baum's columns from his newspaper editing days in the Dakota Territory. In 1890 and 1891, L. Frank Baum edited The Aberdeen Saturday Pioneer in the Dakota Territory. Although the newspaper was not a financial success, it gave Baum the opportunity of developing his writing skills through a fascinating column entitled, "Our Landlady". For the most part, the columns contain rural humor, but a few of the columns show his interest in fantasy, including predictions of the future as well as some concepts that appear in the Oz books. In 1941, the South Dakota Writers' Project of the Work Projects Administration sponsored a collection of some of the "Our Landlady" columns. This booklet contains 13 stories.
